Turn business goals into an annual people plan for my client group
Connects a business unit's strategy to a prioritized HR plan with initiatives, owners, timing, and success measures.
The prompt
Help me build next year's people plan for the business unit I support as an HR business partner.
Business unit: [WHAT it does, size, locations]
Business goals for next year: [e.g. launch in a new market, improve margin, scale a team]
Current people situation: [headcount, key gaps, attrition hot spots, engagement themes, leadership bench, open ER issues]
Budget and HR capacity: [RESOURCES available]
Company-wide HR priorities I must support: [e.g. new performance process, pay transparency]
Work through:
1. Implications - for each business goal, what it means for people: capability, capacity, structure, culture, leadership.
2. Gap assessment - where we are vs. where we need to be, based only on what I've shared.
3. Prioritized initiatives - no more than 5-7. For each: problem it solves, actions, owner, timing, cost estimate [ADD], and success measure.
4. What we will NOT do this year and why.
5. Quarterly roadmap in a table.
6. Risks and dependencies.
7. One-page summary I can walk the leader through in 15 minutes.
Push back if a goal has no clear people implication, and flag where I'm missing data to make a good call.
Highlighted [brackets] are blanks to replace with your own details.
