Decide a fair compensation or goodwill gesture
A reasoned recommendation on whether to offer a refund, credit, or gesture, sized to the impact and consistent with policy.
The prompt
Help me decide what, if anything, to offer a customer as compensation.
What went wrong: [ISSUE]
Impact on the customer: [time lost, money lost, missed deadlines, repeated contacts]
Whose fault: [ours / partly ours / third party / theirs]
Customer value and history: [plan, spend, tenure, previous credits given]
What they asked for: [REQUEST - or "nothing specific"]
Options I can give without approval: [e.g. up to $25 credit, free shipping, 1 month free]
Our compensation guidelines: [PASTE - or "none written"]
Give me:
1. An assessment of severity (low / medium / high) with the reasons.
2. Two or three options, from minimal to generous, each with cost, likely customer reaction, and precedent risk (would we have to offer this to everyone in the same situation?).
3. My recommended option and why, and whether it needs approval.
4. A short wording for offering it that sounds sincere, not transactional, and doesn't admit legal liability beyond what's true.
5. One line to log internally so offers stay consistent across the team.
Rules: be consistent with similar cases; scale to impact, not to how angry the customer is. If my guidelines conflict with your recommendation, follow the guidelines and flag it.
Highlighted [brackets] are blanks to replace with your own details.

How this prompt is built
This prompt follows the RTF structure (Role, Task, Format). RTF tells the model who to be, what to do and what shape the answer should take. It is the quickest structure that still gives noticeably better results than a bare request.
