Define a new team's mission, scope, and success measures
A one-page charter for a team you're setting up: mission, scope boundaries, first-year measures, and questions for your sponsor.
The prompt
Help me define a clear mission and scope for a team I'm setting up, before I hire into it. This is step 1 of the 'Build a new team from scratch' pack.
Why the team is being created: [BUSINESS PROBLEM or goal]
Who asked for it and what they expect: [SPONSOR and expectations]
What the team will own: [AREAS, products, processes]
What it won't own, or what's unclear: [LIST]
Teams we'll depend on or serve: [LIST]
Approved budget and headcount: [DETAILS]
Produce a one-page team charter:
1. Mission in one sentence a stranger would understand.
2. Scope: in, out, and 'needs a decision', naming who should make each open decision.
3. 3-5 success measures for the first year, with baseline and target. Use [ADD BASELINE] rather than inventing numbers.
4. Key customers and partners, and what each needs from us.
5. How we'll work with other teams: requests, handoffs, escalation.
6. The top 3 risks to the team's success and early mitigations.
Then list the questions I should take back to my sponsor before I start hiring. Push back if the scope is too broad for the headcount.
Highlighted [brackets] are blanks to replace with your own details.

How this prompt is built
This prompt follows the RTF structure (Role, Task, Format). RTF tells the model who to be, what to do and what shape the answer should take. It is the quickest structure that still gives noticeably better results than a bare request.
