Check whether my side hustle conflicts with my day job
Spots contract clauses, IP risks, and conflicts of interest to resolve before you start earning on the side.
The prompt
Help me check whether my side hustle idea could get me in trouble with my current employer.
My side hustle idea: [WHAT I'D SELL OR DO, and to whom]
My day job: [ROLE, industry, and what my employer sells]
Relevant parts of my employment contract or handbook: [PASTE clauses on outside work, moonlighting, IP / inventions, non-compete, non-solicit, confidentiality, conflicts of interest - or write "not sure"]
When and how I'd work on it: [evenings, weekends; my own laptop or the work one]
Location: [COUNTRY / STATE]
Do this:
1. Summarize, in plain words, what each clause I pasted seems to allow or restrict. If I wrote "not sure," list the clauses I should look for and where they usually live.
2. Flag the common risk areas: overlap with my employer's customers or products, using company time, equipment, or confidential information, IP assignment clauses that could claim what I create, non-solicitation of clients or coworkers, and public profiles that look like competing.
3. Rate each risk low / medium / high, with the reason.
4. Give me practical safeguards (separate devices and accounts, clear work hours, written disclosure).
5. Draft a short, neutral message asking my manager or HR for approval, in case disclosure is the safer route.
Output: a risk table (Issue | What the clause or situation says | Risk level | Safeguard), then the draft message.
This is general information, not legal advice. Contract terms and enforceability vary a lot by location; for anything rated high, tell me to check with an employment lawyer before I start.

How this prompt is built
This prompt follows the RTF structure (Role, Task, Format). RTF tells the model who to be, what to do and what shape the answer should take. It is the quickest structure that still gives noticeably better results than a bare request.
