Write a truck driver job ad that attracts qualified drivers
A driver recruiting ad that leads with pay, home time, routes, and equipment, the details drivers actually compare, plus a screening checklist.
The prompt
Write a job ad for a truck driver position.
Position: [e.g. "Class A regional dry van", "local LTL P&D", "OTR reefer team", "delivery van driver"]
License and endorsements required: [CDL class or local equivalent, hazmat, tanker, doubles]
Experience required: [MONTHS OR YEARS, accepting recent school grads yes/no]
Pay: [cents per mile / hourly / percentage / salary, average weekly range, how miles are calculated, detention and layover pay, sign-on bonus terms]
Home time: [e.g. "home every weekend", "daily", "out 2-3 weeks"]
Routes and freight: [lanes, touch or no-touch, drop and hook vs live load]
Equipment: [truck age, automatic or manual, APU, inward cameras, assigned truck yes/no]
Benefits: [health, 401k or pension, paid time off, pet or rider policy]
Hiring area: [STATES OR REGIONS]
Where it will be posted: [job board, social media, driver-specific sites]
Requirements:
- Put pay, home time, and route type in the first three lines. Drivers skip ads that hide them.
- State pay honestly as a realistic range; if bonuses have conditions, say so. Do not inflate "up to" numbers.
- Use plain language drivers use: lanes, home time, no-touch freight, drop and hook.
- Keep it under 300 words, with a short bullet list of requirements.
- End with how to apply and how fast we respond.
Also return: a short version for social media, 6 phone-screen questions (including disqualifiers like MVR and drug test history), and a list of claims I should check before publishing.
Make sure requirements are job-related and the ad complies with fair hiring and local employment law; check with HR.
Highlighted [brackets] are blanks to replace with your own details.
