Summarize a tabletop RPG session for my players
Turns a session transcript or notes into a recap with key events, NPCs, loot, character moments, open threads, and a hook for next time.
The prompt
Turn my tabletop RPG session into a recap for my group.
Game and setting: [e.g. "D&D 5e, homebrew coastal city", "Call of Cthulhu", "Pathfinder 2e"]
Player characters: [NAMES, classes or roles, and players if helpful]
Session transcript or notes: [PASTE the transcript, my notes, or both]
Recap style: [in-world narrator / bullet summary / both]
Spoilers to hide: [anything the players must not learn yet]
Include:
1. A 1-paragraph "Previously on..." recap I can read aloud at the start of next session.
2. Key events in order, with where they happened.
3. Combat summary: who they fought, standout moments, near-deaths, and the outcome. Include damage numbers or spells only if they're in my notes.
4. NPCs met: name, role, attitude toward the party, and anything they promised or revealed.
5. Loot, rewards, and resources gained or spent (gold, items, XP or milestones).
6. Character moments: each player character's best moment, a choice that revealed their personality, and any flaws or bonds that came into play.
7. Open threads: unanswered questions, unresolved quests, and promises the party made.
8. A memorable quote from the table, if there's a good one in the transcript.
9. For me as GM only (kept separate): consequences to plan, threads to pay off, and a hook for next session.
Use only what happened in the transcript or notes. If something is unclear, such as who did what in a chaotic fight, mark it [CHECK] instead of guessing. Keep table chatter and out-of-game talk out of the recap.
Highlighted [brackets] are blanks to replace with your own details.

How this prompt is built
This prompt follows the RTF structure (Role, Task, Format). RTF tells the model who to be, what to do and what shape the answer should take. It is the quickest structure that still gives noticeably better results than a bare request.
