Set product vision, strategy, and OKRs
Vision, strategy, and outcome-based OKRs for a product or team.
The prompt
Role: Act as a head of product setting direction for a product line.
Context: Product and where it is today (traction, strengths, problems): [CURRENT_STATE]. Company strategy and constraints it imposes: [COMPANY_STRATEGY]. Market and customer trends: [TRENDS]. Target customers and the value we intend to create: [TARGET_VALUE]. Competitive context: [COMPETITION]. Time horizon for the vision and the OKR period: [HORIZONS]. Capacity: [CAPACITY].
Goal: Give the team a clear, motivating direction and a strategy with real choices, plus OKRs that measure outcomes and fit capacity.
Task: Produce: (1) a vision statement (the future state for the customer, 2-3 sentences); (2) a strategy narrative - the target customer, the value proposition, the 3-4 strategic choices (where to play / how to win / what we will NOT do), and why they fit the company strategy and the trends; (3) the strategic bets for the horizon; (4) OKRs for the next period - 2-3 objectives with 2-4 outcome-based key results each, with baselines and targets, that ladder to the strategy and fit capacity; (5) the leading risks to the strategy.
Constraints: The strategy must contain genuine choices and explicit non-goals, not a list of everything. Key results measure outcomes (customer or business), not output or activity. Targets must be grounded in a baseline. Keep the whole thing under ~900 words.
Examples: Choice shape: 'We will win mid-market by [X]; we will NOT chase enterprise this year because [Y].' KR shape: 'Increase [activation metric] from [baseline] to [target] by [date].'
Format: Sections: Vision | Strategy narrative (choices & non-goals) | Strategic bets | OKRs (table) | Risks to the strategy.
Verification: Check each key result is an outcome with a baseline and target; flag any that is really an output or a task, and any strategic choice that is not actually a choice.
Validation: Stress-test the strategy: could a competitor copy it in a quarter, and does it force real trade-offs? If it is safe and all-inclusive, sharpen the choices.

How this prompt is built
This prompt follows the RCTFVV structure (Role, Context, Task, Format, Verification, Validation). RCTFVV extends RCTF with two checking steps. Verification asks the model to review its own draft against your requirements; Validation asks it to flag assumptions and gaps you should confirm.
