Design a training program for new people managers
Builds a practical new-manager development program covering core people skills, HR essentials, and practice-based sessions.
The prompt
Help me design a training program for newly promoted or newly hired people managers.
Audience: [number of managers, experience level, in-person or remote]
Common problems we see with new managers: [e.g. avoiding feedback, poor documentation, unclear delegation, mishandling sensitive disclosures]
HR processes they must know: [e.g. performance reviews, leave requests, hiring, discipline, accommodations]
Time available: [e.g. 6 sessions of 90 minutes over 3 months]
Delivery resources: [facilitators, budget, LMS]
Design:
1. Learning outcomes - what managers will be able to do afterward (observable).
2. Program outline - session titles, objectives, and timing. Cover: role shift from peer to manager, 1:1s, feedback, setting expectations, documentation, hiring fairly, handling performance issues, legal basics (what to escalate to HR), team wellbeing, and leading through change.
3. For each session - a practice activity (role-play scenario, case study, or real-work assignment), not just content.
4. "When to call HR" quick-reference card - situations like harassment disclosures, health issues, leave requests, threats.
5. Between-session application tasks and manager-of-manager involvement.
6. Measurement - how to evaluate impact (behavior change, team engagement, ER case trends) beyond satisfaction surveys.
Keep it practical and scenario-based, using situations a manager in my organization would actually face.

This prompt follows the Few-Shot structure (Few-shot prompting). A few-shot prompt includes one or more worked examples of the input and the output you want, so the model can copy the pattern instead of guessing it.
