The prompt

Help me build a promotion evidence file (sometimes called a brag document). This is step 1 of my promotion plan; the evidence file feeds the conversation with my manager (step 2) and my promotion packet (step 3). Target level criteria: [PASTE the career ladder or level guide for my target level - or a gap table if I've done one] Raw material: [PASTE notes, performance reviews, project updates, praise messages, metrics - messy is fine] Time period covered: [e.g. "since my last promotion in 2024"] For each piece of evidence: - Rewrite it as: situation, what I did (my part, not the team's), and the result. - Quantify where my notes allow (revenue, time saved, error rate, users, cost). Where a number would help but I gave none, insert [ADD METRIC] - never estimate one. - Tag it to one or more criteria. - Note who can vouch for it (stakeholder, peer, customer) if I mentioned them. Rules: - Separate "I" contributions from "we" outcomes honestly; reviewers notice inflation. - Prefer recent, high-scope examples over many small ones. - Flag criteria with weak or no evidence so I know what to create in the coming months. Return: 1. The evidence file, grouped by criterion, strongest examples first. 2. A coverage summary: criterion | number of strong examples | gap? 3. A short habit for keeping the file updated weekly (under 10 minutes).

How this prompt is built

This prompt follows the RTF structure (Role, Task, Format). RTF tells the model who to be, what to do and what shape the answer should take. It is the quickest structure that still gives noticeably better results than a bare request.
