Present a sales forecast to leadership and win buy-in
A credible forecast story with categories, a bridge from last forecast, confidence evidence, risks, the ask, and answers to tough questions.
The prompt
Help me present my sales forecast to [AUDIENCE - e.g. "the executive team", "the board", "investors"] and get their buy-in.
Forecast: [PASTE numbers - period, target, commit, best case, pipeline coverage]
How it was built: [e.g. "bottom-up from rep commits", "weighted pipeline", "historical run rate"]
What changed since the last forecast: [WHAT MOVED and WHY]
What I need from them: [e.g. "approve two hires", "accept a revised target", "fund a campaign"]
Their likely concerns: [e.g. "last quarter's miss", "slipping enterprise deals"]
Build:
1. Headline: one sentence on where we'll land and how confident we are.
2. Forecast categories: commit, best case, and pipeline, each clearly defined so everyone reads them the same way.
3. Bridge: from the last forecast (or target) to this one, showing what moved and why.
4. Confidence evidence: pipeline coverage, stage conversion and win rates vs. history, deal slippage, and concentration (how much depends on a few large deals).
5. Risks and upsides: the specific deals or assumptions that could swing the number, the size of each, and what we're doing about it.
6. The ask: decisions or resources needed, and what happens without them.
7. Slide outline: 5-7 slides, each with a title that states the takeaway and the chart to use.
8. Tough questions: 8 likely questions with short, honest answers.
Rules: keep hope out of the commit number and separate clearly what's committed from what's possible. Use only my figures and mark anything missing [ADD].
Highlighted [brackets] are blanks to replace with your own details.
