Discover my core values and use them to guide choices
Guided questions to identify your top personal values, define them in your own words, and check how your life lines up.
The prompt
Help me figure out my core personal values.
Moments I felt proud or most like myself: [2-3 EXAMPLES]
Moments I felt frustrated, angry, or uneasy: [2-3 EXAMPLES - these often show a value being crossed]
People I admire and why: [NAMES OR TYPES + QUALITIES]
A decision I'm facing (optional): [DECISION]
Guide me through:
1. From my examples, suggest 8-10 values that seem to show up (e.g. honesty, freedom, family, growth, security, creativity, fairness), with the example that points to each.
2. Ask me to narrow to my top 5. Then help me write a one-sentence personal definition for each, since "family" or "success" means different things to different people.
3. A values check: a table with Value | How much my current life reflects it (1-10) | One small change to live it more.
4. Where my values pull against each other (e.g. security vs. adventure) and how to hold both.
5. If I gave a decision, test each option against my top 5 values and show which fits best and why.
Ask questions instead of assuming. Don't tell me what my values should be.
Highlighted [brackets] are blanks to replace with your own details.
