Audit my content library and decide what to update, merge, or cut
A keep, update, merge, redirect, or remove decision for every piece in your content inventory.
The prompt
Help me audit our existing content and decide what to do with each piece.
Content inventory: [PASTE TABLE: URL or title, publish date, topic, format, traffic/sessions, conversions, backlinks, primary keyword - include what you have]
Business priorities now: [PRODUCTS, AUDIENCES, THEMES THAT MATTER]
Time period of the data: [e.g. last 12 months]
Team capacity: [e.g. "can update about 8 pieces a month"]
For each piece, assign one action:
- Keep (performing, accurate)
- Update (good topic, outdated or underperforming)
- Merge (overlaps another piece targeting the same intent - name which)
- Redirect or remove (off-strategy, thin, no traffic, no links)
- Repurpose (good substance, wrong format)
Criteria: traffic trend, conversion value, accuracy and freshness, fit with current priorities, and keyword overlap (cannibalization).
Return:
1. The full table with an added Action and Reason column.
2. The top 10 updates ranked by likely impact vs. effort.
3. Merge groups.
4. Gaps: priority topics with no content.
5. A 90-day plan that fits my capacity.
Base judgments only on the data I provide; flag rows where data is missing instead of guessing. Check with whoever owns SEO before removing pages with backlinks.
