Write substitute teacher plans that run without me
Clear, complete sub plans with schedule, lesson steps, routines, student support notes, and backup activities.
The prompt
Write substitute plans for a day I'll be out.
Date(s) and reason type: [planned / emergency set]
Grade and subject(s): [DETAILS]
Daily schedule: [PERIODS OR BLOCKS WITH TIMES, INCLUDING DUTIES]
What students should work on: [TOPIC, ASSIGNMENT, MATERIALS LOCATION]
Key routines: [attendance, entry, bathroom, technology, dismissal]
Students needing support: [describe accommodations or health needs by role, e.g. "two students have extended time", "one student has an allergy action plan in the nurse's office" - no names in the plan itself]
Helpful staff: [neighbor teacher, office extension, para]
Write the plans with:
1. A one-page "Start here" with the schedule, who to ask for help, and where things are.
2. For each period: a timed lesson plan a non-specialist can run, with exact student instructions to read aloud.
3. Routines and behavior expectations, plus what to do if something goes wrong.
4. Early-finisher work and one backup activity if technology fails.
5. A short form for the sub to leave notes on attendance, behavior, and what got done.
Rules:
- Assume the sub doesn't know the content. Avoid tasks that require teaching new material.
- Do not include confidential details; tell the sub where to find the confidential folder.
- Mark anything I didn't give you as [ADD], e.g. room numbers or extensions.
Highlighted [brackets] are blanks to replace with your own details.
