Write calm, neutral messages to my co-parent
Rewrite co-parenting messages so they are brief, child-focused, and less likely to start an argument.
The prompt
Help me write a message to my co-parent.
What I need to communicate: [e.g. "swap weekend", "school trip cost", "late pickups", "medical appointment"]
Key facts: [DATES, TIMES, AMOUNTS, WHAT THE SCHOOL OR DOCTOR SAID]
What I'm asking for: [SPECIFIC REQUEST AND DEADLINE]
Our current communication: [e.g. "tense", "mostly OK", "they reply with insults"]
My draft (optional): [PASTE]
Their last message, if I'm replying: [PASTE]
Rules, based on a "brief, informative, friendly, firm" approach:
- Stick to the child-related issue. Leave out past grievances, opinions about them, and sarcasm.
- Facts first, then one clear request with a date.
- Short. A few sentences where possible.
- Don't respond to insults or bait; ignore them and answer only the practical part.
- Assume it may be read later by a mediator or judge.
Return:
1. The message, ready to send.
2. What I removed from my draft and why (if I gave one).
3. A reply if they refuse or don't respond by the deadline.
4. A tip on keeping a simple log of exchanges.
If I mention custody orders, safety concerns for me or my child, or ongoing disputes, remind me to follow existing orders and to check with a family lawyer or mediator; if anyone is in danger, contact emergency services.
