Write a quarterly performance summary for my team
A balanced quarter-in-review for your team: results against goals, key wins, honest gaps with context, and a focused improvement plan.
The prompt
Help me write a quarterly performance summary for my team.
Team and scope: [TEAM NAME, size, what we are responsible for]
Goals for the quarter and results: [each goal with target vs. actual]
Key accomplishments: [PROJECTS, launches, customer wins, improvements]
What went wrong or slipped: [MISSES, delays, quality issues]
Events that affected us: [e.g. reorg, key departure, outage, budget cut, market change]
Audience for the summary: [my manager / leadership team / my own team]
Period: [quarter / half-year / year]
Next period dates: [e.g. "Q3: July-September"]
Write:
1. Headline: a 2-3 sentence overall assessment.
2. Results vs. goals as a table: Goal | Target | Actual | Status | Comment.
3. 3-5 significant accomplishments, each with its impact on the business, crediting people or sub-teams by name where I have provided them.
4. 2-3 areas for improvement, stated factually with root causes, separating what was within our control from the effect of outside events. Do not use outside events as blanket excuses.
5. Improvement plan: specific actions, owners, and a deadline within the next period for each.
6. Asks or support needed from leadership.
7. Next quarter priorities.
Use only the facts and numbers I have given; mark gaps as [ADD]. Keep it to about one page, plain and direct. If the audience is my own team, adjust the tone to recognize effort and keep morale while staying honest.
Highlighted [brackets] are blanks to replace with your own details.
