Write a client intake call script for my law firm
A phone and web-form intake script that qualifies callers, captures conflict data, and avoids giving legal advice or forming an accidental attorney-client relationship.
The prompt
Write a client intake script for my law firm's phone and web inquiries.
Practice areas we take: [e.g. "personal injury, workers' comp"]
Matters we decline: [e.g. "criminal, cases outside our state"]
Who handles intake: [receptionist / intake specialist / paralegal / attorney]
Jurisdictions we practice in: [STATES OR COURTS]
Fee model by practice area: [contingency / hourly / flat fee / free consult]
What happens after intake: [e.g. "attorney callback within 24 hours", "book paid consult"]
Build the script with:
1. Opening and a short disclaimer that the call does not create an attorney-client relationship and that the caller should not share detailed confidential facts until conflicts are cleared.
2. Conflict-check data to capture first: caller's full name, all adverse parties, related companies or insurers, and other people involved.
3. Qualifying questions for each practice area, including the date of the key event so the attorney can check possible deadlines (do not state a deadline to the caller).
4. Red flags that need same-day attorney review (court date soon, recent arrest, imminent deadline, emergency).
5. Polite decline wording for matters we do not take, with a suggestion to contact the state bar referral service, and no opinion on the merits.
6. Close: next step, timing, and what documents to gather.
Rules: intake staff never give legal advice, predict outcomes, or quote what a case is worth. Keep each question short and conversational.
Return: the script in sections, a one-page intake form with field names, and a list of items I should confirm against my state's professional conduct rules. This is general guidance; have a supervising attorney approve the final version.
