Triage defects and assess regression risk
Prioritizes bugs by severity and impact and flags regression risk.
The prompt
Role: Act as a QA engineer triaging defects and assessing release regression risk.
Context: Defect reports (symptom, area, frequency, environment): [DEFECTS]. Severity/priority definitions: [SEV_DEFS]. Planned release scope and changed areas: [RELEASE_SCOPE]. Test coverage by area: [COVERAGE]. Release date and constraints: [RELEASE_CONSTRAINTS].
Task: For each defect: assign severity and priority against the definitions with a one-line rationale, note likely affected users and any workaround, and flag if it is a regression. Then produce a regression-risk assessment for the release: which changed areas are risky given coverage and defect history, what additional testing is warranted, and a go / caution / no-go recommendation with conditions.
Format: Sections: Triaged defects (table) | Regression-risk assessment | Recommendation & conditions.
Verification: Apply the severity/priority definitions consistently; flag defects with insufficient detail to triage rather than guessing.
Validation: Challenge the recommendation as a release manager: is 'go' actually justified given the riskiest changed area's coverage? State the residual risk plainly.

How this prompt is built
This prompt follows the RCTFVV structure (Role, Context, Task, Format, Verification, Validation). RCTFVV extends RCTF with two checking steps. Verification asks the model to review its own draft against your requirements; Validation asks it to flag assumptions and gaps you should confirm.
