Prepare for an internal interview with another team
Interview prep tailored to internal candidates: using insider knowledge, answering "why leave your team?", and avoiding overconfidence.
The prompt
Help me prepare for an interview for an internal role at my company. This is step 3 of my internal move plan; it can build on my fit assessment (step 1) and how the conversation with my manager went (step 2).
Role and hiring manager: [DETAILS]
My current role and best results: [EXAMPLES]
What I know from the inside about the team's challenges: [DETAILS]
Relationships with people on the new team: [e.g. "worked with two of them on a project"]
Competition: [e.g. "external candidates too", "one other internal applicant"]
Internal interviews have their own traps, so cover:
1. Answers to "Why do you want to leave your current team?" and "What will your manager say about you?" - positive and honest.
2. How to use insider knowledge: a short 30-60-90 day view of how I'd approach their actual problems. Mark assumptions as [CONFIRM] since I may not see the full picture.
3. How to avoid assuming the interviewers already know my work; prepare 4 concrete examples with results as if they were strangers.
4. How to handle questions about weaknesses that people in the company may already have heard about.
5. Questions for the hiring manager on expectations, team dynamics, and the transition timeline.
6. What to do if I don't get it: how to respond gracefully and keep my reputation strong on both teams.
Return this as a prep sheet I can review the night before.

How this prompt is built
This prompt follows the Few-Shot structure (Few-shot prompting). A few-shot prompt includes one or more worked examples of the input and the output you want, so the model can copy the pattern instead of guessing it.
