Prepare for a data analyst or data scientist technical interview
A targeted prep plan and practice set covering SQL, statistics, case questions, and take-home tips for a specific data role.
The prompt
Help me prepare for a technical interview for a data role.
Role and level: [e.g. "senior data analyst", "data scientist, product analytics", "BI developer"]
Company and industry: [NAME, and what they do]
Job description: [PASTE]
Interview stages I know of: [e.g. SQL live coding, stats, product case, take-home, ML system design, behavioral]
My background and weak spots: [e.g. "strong SQL, rusty on probability"]
Time until interview: [e.g. "10 days, 1 hour a day"]
Give me:
1. What they are likely to test, based on the job description and stages, ranked by likelihood.
2. A day-by-day prep plan that fits my time, weighted toward my weak spots.
3. Practice questions with model answers:
- 5 SQL problems at the right level (window functions, self-joins, cohorts, deduplication, date logic), with solutions and common mistakes.
- 5 statistics or experimentation questions (e.g. p-values, power, a confusing A/B result).
- 2 product or business case questions with a structured answer approach (clarify, define metrics, hypothesize, size, recommend).
- For data science roles: 3 modeling questions (bias-variance, choosing metrics, leakage).
4. Take-home tips: how to scope, document assumptions, and present results.
5. Behavioral stories to prepare, using situations data people typically face (influencing without authority, a wrong number shipped, ambiguous requests).
Then offer to run a mock interview with me, one question at a time, and give feedback on each answer.

How this prompt is built
This prompt follows the Few-Shot structure (Few-shot prompting). A few-shot prompt includes one or more worked examples of the input and the output you want, so the model can copy the pattern instead of guessing it.
