Design a project-based learning unit around a real driving question
A PBL unit with a driving question, authentic product, milestones, scaffolded lessons, teamwork structures, and assessment.
The prompt
Help me design a project-based learning unit.
Subject and level: [e.g. "7th grade science", "upper-division urban planning"]
Standards or outcomes to cover: [LIST]
Length: [e.g. "4 weeks, 3 sessions per week"]
Real-world connections available: [local issues, partners, community experts, clients]
Constraints: [budget, technology, group size, students' independence]
Design:
1. Driving question: 3 options that are open-ended, relevant to students, and require the target content to answer. Recommend one.
2. Final product and audience: what students create and who outside the class will see it.
3. Milestones: 4-6 checkpoints with deliverables and dates, each with a feedback moment (peer critique, teacher conference, expert feedback).
4. Teaching plan: the mini-lessons and workshops students need, placed just before they need each skill.
5. Team structures: team size, roles, a team contract outline, and how to handle uneven contribution.
6. Assessment: what is graded individually vs. as a team, with success criteria tied to the standards.
Watch for the common failure where the project is fun but the content is thin: for each standard, point to the milestone where it is taught and assessed. Return the plan as sections with a calendar table at the end.

How this prompt is built
This prompt follows the Few-Shot structure (Few-shot prompting). A few-shot prompt includes one or more worked examples of the input and the output you want, so the model can copy the pattern instead of guessing it.
