Calculate OEE and find where equipment time is being lost
An overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) calculation broken into availability, performance, and quality losses, with priorities to fix.
The prompt
Help me calculate overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) and find the biggest losses.
Equipment or line: [NAME]
Period: [e.g. "last 4 weeks"]
Planned production time: [hours scheduled, excluding planned breaks]
Downtime events: [PASTE - reason | duration]
Ideal cycle time or rated speed: [e.g. "60 units/min"]
Total units produced: [NUMBER]
Good units (first time right): [NUMBER]
Do this:
1. Calculate availability (run time / planned time), performance (ideal cycle time x total units / run time), quality (good / total), and OEE. Show each formula with my numbers.
2. Convert each loss into hours of lost production, so they can be compared directly.
3. Break losses into the six big losses: breakdowns, setup/changeovers, small stops, reduced speed, startup rejects, production rejects. Note which ones my data can't separate.
4. Rank the top losses and suggest what to investigate for each (e.g. SMED for changeovers, root cause for repeat breakdowns).
5. Check my data for common errors: wrong ideal speed, planned stops counted as downtime, rejects counted twice.
6. Suggest a realistic improvement target based on my current level, not a generic "world class" number.
Don't fill in missing figures; tell me what to collect.
Highlighted [brackets] are blanks to replace with your own details.

How this prompt is built
This prompt follows the Few-Shot structure (Few-shot prompting). A few-shot prompt includes one or more worked examples of the input and the output you want, so the model can copy the pattern instead of guessing it.
