The prompt

Help me build a downturn playbook for my company: what we'll do, in what order, if things get worse. Current financial position: [revenue, margin, burn or profit, cash, runway, debt] Main risks we face: [e.g. "customer budget cuts", "funding market closing", "loss of largest customer", "input cost increases"] Cost base: [major categories: people, vendors, marketing, facilities] Commitments we can't easily change: [leases, contracts, covenants] What we will protect no matter what: [e.g. "core product team", "customer support quality"] Build: 1. Leading signals to monitor monthly, each with a threshold (e.g. "pipeline down 20% vs. plan for 2 months", "runway under 15 months"). 2. Three stages (e.g. Watch, Act, Protect), each defined by which triggers have fired. 3. For each stage, pre-agreed actions with estimated savings or cash impact, time to take effect, owner, and side effects. Order them from least to most damaging: discretionary spend, hiring pauses, vendor renegotiation, pricing, and only then reductions in people. 4. Revenue-side actions as well, not only cuts. 5. The runway impact of each stage, showing the math from my inputs and marking gaps [ADD]. 6. Who decides to move between stages, and how the board is informed. 7. Communication principles for employees, so we're honest early rather than surprising people. Have finance verify the numbers, and involve HR and employment counsel before planning any reductions in staff.

How this prompt is built

This prompt follows the Few-Shot structure (Few-shot prompting). A few-shot prompt includes one or more worked examples of the input and the output you want, so the model can copy the pattern instead of guessing it.
