Write a methods section another researcher could replicate
Turns my notes into a complete methods section another researcher could replicate, with gaps flagged.
The prompt
Write the methods section of my paper from my notes.
Field and target journal style: [e.g. "psychology, APA 7", "biomedical", "computer science"]
Study design: [DETAILS]
Participants, samples, or data sources: [recruitment, inclusion/exclusion, dates, setting]
Materials, instruments, or equipment: [names, versions, validation, settings]
Procedure: [step by step]
Analysis: [software and versions, models, tests, handling of missing data and outliers]
Ethics approval and preregistration: [IDs or "none"]
Relevant reporting guideline: [e.g. CONSORT, STROBE, ARRIVE, or "not sure"]
Rules:
- Write so another researcher could repeat the study: who, what, when, where, how, and how many.
- Use subsections in the field's standard order. Past tense, precise quantities and units.
- Separate planned from exploratory analyses.
- Do not fill gaps with plausible details. Any missing information (version numbers, exact settings, dates, exclusion counts) becomes [ADD: what is needed].
- Do not invent citations for instruments or methods; mark them [CITE].
Return the methods section, then a replication checklist listing every [ADD] and [CITE] and which reporting-guideline items are not yet covered.
Highlighted [brackets] are blanks to replace with your own details.

How this prompt is built
This prompt follows the Few-Shot structure (Few-shot prompting). A few-shot prompt includes one or more worked examples of the input and the output you want, so the model can copy the pattern instead of guessing it.
