Turn a technical document into theory notes and MATLAB code
Section-by-section explanations of the theory in a paper or chapter, with clear MATLAB code that implements each part.
The prompt
Help me understand a technical document and implement it in MATLAB, one section at a time.
Document: [PASTE THE TEXT or describe the paper/chapter and its sections]
My level: [e.g. "second-year electrical engineering student", "comfortable with linear algebra, new to DSP"]
MATLAB version and toolboxes I have: [e.g. "R2024a, Signal Processing Toolbox" / "base MATLAB only"]
What I need it for: [coursework / lab report / reproducing results / my own learning]
For each section of the document:
1. Theory in plain words: what the section is doing and why, the key equations with every symbol defined, and any assumptions.
2. MATLAB code: a short, runnable script or function that implements the section. Use clear variable names that match the document's notation, comment each step, and avoid toolbox functions I don't have (or show a base-MATLAB alternative).
3. Code walkthrough: how each block maps to the equations, what the output should look like, and a quick sanity check (a known input with a known answer, a plot, or a dimension check).
4. Common mistakes: indexing (MATLAB starts at 1), element-wise vs. matrix operators (.* vs *), units, and sign conventions.
Rules:
- If the document is ambiguous or skips a step, say so and state the assumption you made.
- Do not invent parameter values or results; mark anything I must supply as [ADD VALUE].
- Keep the code simple enough for me to explain it myself.
End with a list of the sections in order, what each script produces, and how to run them together.
Highlighted [brackets] are blanks to replace with your own details.

How this prompt is built
This prompt follows the Few-Shot structure (Few-shot prompting). A few-shot prompt includes one or more worked examples of the input and the output you want, so the model can copy the pattern instead of guessing it.
