Pull the 5 things I need to know from a long report or update
Cuts a long report, thread, or update down to the five points that matter, each with evidence, implication, and action.
The prompt
Read this material and give me only what I need to know.
Material: [PASTE report, email thread, dashboard notes, or update]
My role and what I'm responsible for: [ROLE - so you can judge what matters to me]
What I'll use this for: [e.g. "a decision next week", "staying informed", "briefing my boss"]
Give me:
1. The 5 things I need to know, ranked by importance to me. For each:
- Insight - the point in one plain sentence.
- Evidence - the specific fact or number from the material that supports it.
- Implication - why it matters for me or my area.
- Action - what I should do, decide, or ask, or "none - just be aware".
2. Noise I can ignore - a short list of topics in the material that look important but don't need my attention, and why.
3. Open questions - anything important the material doesn't answer.
Rules: fewer than 5 is fine if there aren't 5 real points - don't pad. Use only what's in the material; if you draw an inference, label it as one. Quote numbers exactly as they appear. Keep the whole response under 300 words.
Highlighted [brackets] are blanks to replace with your own details.

How this prompt is built
This prompt follows the RISEN structure (Role, Instructions, Steps, End goal, Narrowing). RISEN is a structure for longer, multi-step tasks. It sets the role and instructions, lays out the steps, states the end goal and then narrows what to include or avoid.
